Creating an impactful website can be something that so many photographers find difficult because there is so much information out there on what to put on your website, the do’s and don’ts, and even just knowing where to get started when you are making your first website.

I want to break down three simple tricks to having a website that is impactful and easy for clients to navigate, no matter if you are just getting started in the industry, or if you are looking to Rebrand your business, these tips will help!

1. Keep Your Customer’s Journey in Mind

Think about the process that every person who clicks on your website will go through to get the information that they need from you about a service they’re interested in. If you happen to offer multiple different services in your business, then we need to make sure that every single service has a clear-cut path to finding more information. The truth is, if a client has to make more than three or four “clicks” on your website to find the information they are looking for, you have a greater chance of them losing interest and leaving your site without inquiring.

We want to make sure that the second someone lands somewhere on your website they know exactly where they need to go. In order to make this a simple process we don’t want to make them skip around to multiple pages to see your portfolio, learn your pricing, find out about your experience, etc. We want to have one spot/page that tells them everything they need for that service.

2. Give Clear Call to Actions

Having a contact me page on your website is not enough to ultimately push people to contact you. You want to make sure that your website pages have clear calls to action to lead your reader to the next “step” to find the information they need. Whether that looks like a “click here to learn more,” button to take them to your services page, or on your services page having a button that says, “click here to contact us to see if your date is still available.” Whatever it is, we want to make sure each page has at least one call to action that continues to lead a customer throughout the journey with you throughout your website.

3. Make sure your website copy speaks to your client’s needs and want’s

The truth is, clients will not purchase from you if they don’t feel a connection to what it is that you are offering them. You need to make sure that you are showing up in a way that is talking about why your services are valuable to your client. How is this service going to help them? How will it solve a problem they are having? Or how valuable it is going to be to them down the road? Your services are not based on how great of a photographer you are, how many places you’ve been published, or how many sessions do you have photographed – it’s based on the impact that your service is going to make on them. So make sure that your website copy is centered on the effects of your services’ impact for your clients.

Bonus Tip! – make sure your “about page” is fun, connecting, and truly showcases who you are inside and outside of your business. Your ‘about page’ does not need to be one hundred percent professional, use words or language you wouldn’t use in a conversation with a friend, and it doesn’t need to have that professional headshot with a clean background and fancy clothes. We want who you are to be showcased on this page because that is what is going to ultimately drive a client to create a relationship with you and your business once they make a connection with your website’s copy!
