Email marketing can have a huge impact on your business. I’m going to share three reasons why I believe photographers should dig their heels in the email marketing right now and get on the email marketing train before everyone else figures out that it is an amazing resource for photography business.
Now I know a lot of people who either just don’t want to touch email marketing as a photographer because they don’t believe it’s going to provide the results that they would hope for because they are a local based business. I also know people who see that email marketing can be beneficial for their business but they don’t dig their heels in and use it to it’s fullest potential, they are only using bits and pieces of it.
So, I want to talk with you about why going all in with email, is going to help your photography business!
1. Nobody Else is Truly Doing It
Now, first things first, the reason that it is going to help is because no one else is doing it. It’s really that obvious.
Everyone’s on Instagram, everyone’s on Facebook, everyone is moving to tick tock, everyone is on Pinterest. Everyone is doing all these other things and yet, I haven’t seen many photographers shifting over to email marketing in a way that they are giving it their all. They might have a free download, they might email whenever there’s a flash sale or if they’re releasing mini sessions… but if you are using it sporadically there’s a big difference between that and using it consistently.
Even if people have signed up for multiple free downloads, if you’re the one popping into their inbox all the time, versus sporadically, you’re going to be the one at the top of their mind when it comes time for them to need a photographer.
Yes, even if they follow 10 other photographers on Instagram! If you’re the one popping into their email inbox and showing up on Instagram, and showing up on Facebook ( just like the other photographers), you’re going to have the leg up in this because you’re the one who is at the front of their mind and showing up in all these different places for them.
2. Email Marketing is Very Direct
Email marketing is very direct; it is straight to their inbox. Now I know I’ve talked about this before but I don’t think I can say it enough. There is no algorithm causing you to fight for a position in their inbox.
There are so many different things about email marketing that makes it so much stronger for directly getting in front of your customer.
Now here’s the great thing… I can tell you that we have sent out one email before and made over $1000 off of it, multiple times, and you can do it too!
EX – If you’re doing mini sessions, and you’ve prepped your clients properly, when you open the doors for the mini sessions through your email list you can fill your mini sessions before they even go to the public!
Being able to get direct access to clients and make fast $$$ is 100% worth the time to implement it!
There’s so much more power in an email than there is in Instagram marketing sometimes, especially if you set up your business to be powerful in email marketing.
3. Less Noise in the Inbox
And then finally, the last thing is that there is less noise in someone’s inbox, usually, then there is on Instagram or Facebook.
Think about it like this: when you go to Instagram or Facebook, there are so many posts! Between someone posting about their day, sharing content they found, sales from businesses, someone had a bad day and is venting – there’s so much noise and so much negativity a lot of times on these social platforms that I, a lot of times, don’t watch or read posts unless something stands out because I just get overwhelmed.
Because of that, I am far more likely to see and interact with emails that provide good content and sales opportunities because it is far less overwhelming!
For me personally, I know for some of my audience as well, email marketing is just so much more personal and so much less distracting than trying to be on Instagram or on Facebook and trying to consume all this content at one time. Even if I have 100 un-read emails, it is far easier to consume content there than on Facebook!
So, those are the three reasons why I highly recommend photographers getting on this email marketing train before it gets crazy like Instagram and before everyone moves over and sees the power of it!
