Are you thinking that you might be ready to dive into the education world and start offering mentoring or coaching for other business owners or photographers? If so, here are the three questions I would ask yourself before you officially dive-in and announce this new area of your business!

3 questions to ask yourself before you start coaching others

1. Who is your ideal client, and what processes or unique results have you gotten that you can replicate for them?

To successfully Mentor or coach other people, you need to know exactly who it is that you want to serve, how it is that your processes or skills can serve them, and can your process be replicated for results time and time again.

This is the best way to know for sure that what you have to offer is going to be helpful and get clients who rave about your services to bring you in more coaching clients. Also, having a niche inside the coaching space is going to really help you be able to consistently book clients who are looking for a specific result, which also means that you will not have to worry about answering questions or navigating issues that are outside of your skill-set.

2. Do you mind sharing your business “secrets”?

When you open yourself up to coaching, you need to be willing to share anything and everything, even if they are someone who lives 1 mile down the road from you and offers the same service. This is where a lot of people will get stuck and ultimately choose not to move forward with coaching or mentoring because they’re just not to a point yet where they are ready to give away what they feel are their secrets to success to someone who is in the same Market.

3. Do you have the time to start coaching?

When you start a new area of your business, consider it as starting a whole new business. Do you have the time to Market it? Do you have the time to devote to new clients? Do you have the resources or systems that will allow your current business to continue to move forward while you pour your effort into this new area of business? This isn’t just something that you post about once a month, and you’ll see results. If you genuinely want to make this a new revenue stream in your business, you need to be willing to do some work outside of just throwing it up on your website. Just like your mentoring students will have to dedicate time to get the results they desire, you will have to do the same here.
