Do you struggle when it comes to writing captions for Instagram or Facebook? If so, then here is a simple three-step process that you can follow to create captions that are easy to write and get your readers engaged in helping your standing in the algorithm.
Step 1 – Start with a headline
When writing captions, you always want to make sure that you start with an engaging headline. Whether that looks like asking a question, stating a fact, making a shocking statement, or just giving an overview of what the post is about – staring with a strong headline is key for getting more readers!
Bonus Tip – Emojis are a great way to catch attention quickly. So consider adding one strategically-placed emoji in your headline!
Step 2 – Write an engaging body for your caption.
After your engaging headline, we then want to share valuable information.
This could look like sharing a story, sharing advice, sharing a handful of tips or tricks, or sharing fun facts. Whatever you are sharing, just make sure that it is something that is going to connect to your ideal follower or client.
You also want to make sure that you don’t just skip over any useful information, so don’t be afraid to add in detail because more extended captions filled with detail will hook a reader in.
Bonus Tip:
If you’re writing a long caption, be sure to break it up into paragraphs. You will have people who skim your caption before actually reading it, and we want to make sure it is easy to follow and grab the valuable information!
Step 3 – Your call to action
Your call to action is the most crucial piece of a caption. You should never put a caption out into the world without a call to action. So if you’re wondering what a call to action is, let me break it down quickly. A call to action is you telling your reader to take action in some way, shape, or form. It’s asking them to like your post, tag a friend, drop an emoji below, head the link in your bio, contact you – it doesn’t matter what you ask, as long as you ask them to take some form of action.
Fun fact:
The time that you are most likely to get your followers to interact with you, or hop over to your website, is when they are engaging with you on social media! Use this to your advantage and make sure that you are always adding a call to action at the end of every post.
