Someone asked me a few weeks ago, “ What is the one lens you can’t shoot a wedding without?”. To be honest, it would definitely be my 50 1.2 ( I LOVE this lens! ), but I wouldn’t want to shoot an entire wedding with it! During this last wedding season I found myself changing my lenses A LOT during wedding days, way more than ever before in fact! I love the fact that I can swap a lens really quick and create a whole new look for an image without even having to move. I usually have 5-6 lenses with me on a wedding day, but I have 4 that I keep on me throughout the entire day. Each one of these lenses have a very specific time that they come out of my bag, but I have also forced myself to be a little more creative this wedding season and find new uses for these lenses and I loved the outcome! So here are my 4 must have lenses and when I pull them out!
50 1.2
My 50 is on my camera for everything!! When I say I love this lens, I don’t think that even truly describes how I feel. This lens is definitely used the most on a wedding day because I know I am guaranteed a super sharp focus on every shot! Plus, I am able to get some gorgeous glow in my images during sunset with it! I use it for bride and groom portraits, bridal party shots, family formals, the beginning of the ceremony, and the start of the reception! I also shoot all of my engagement sessions with this lens!
35 1.4
This is my newest lens and I love it! I honestly thought I would NEVER use this lens and within 2 weeks of owning the 35 it became my number two lens! This lens is used mainly for getting ready photos and the reception, but I use it throughout the entire day for quick wide angle shots here and there! One of my biggest goals for my spring wedding season was to start shooting wider shots and showing more of the background in images and this lens has helped me tremendously with making sure I accomplished that goal!

I could not image shooting a wedding without this lens! Shooting details are one of my favorite portions of a wedding day and I wouldn’t be able to get my favorite shots without it! I use this lens in manual mode way more than I do auto, but thats because the focus is tack sharp in manual! ( I just have to hold my breath when I hit the shutter button! ) I also use this lens when I want a compressed background without the weight of carrying around my 70-200! It makes a gorgeous creamy background for portraits and ceremony photos! – I hand this lens off to my second shooter to use during the ceremony a lot of times!

This lens doesn’t come out of my bag often, but when it does it’s because I am in desperate need of the zoom or I need to blur out something unwanted out of the background! So basically this lens is a lifesaver when I pull it out! I love how sharp this lens is for ceremony images and I would use it way more often if I could get the aperture down a little lower ( I love shooting at about 1.8 )! Either way, it’s a must on a wedding day!
